live in the moment...

yep.  another mixed media project.  but never fear...i've got some cards coming up in the next day or two.  this is another page in my september canvas art journal.  you can see the cover in this post.  you see, each monday night, tracy makes a page and we follow along via ustream.  or we just sit and chat while she creates.  this is my take on last week's page (week 2).

life...

another page/entry in my september dare gratitude journal.  (see the cover here) anyone who is creative and makes anything (be it painting, stamping, sewing, drawing, whatever) makes something they don't love.  this is one of those things i don't love.  but i am glad i did it.  and i'm glad it's in my gratitude journal because i am so thankful for life.  i made this page after a really crappy couple of days at work.  and i wanted to include something in my gratitude journal about life and how you shouldn't take it for granted.  so even though i'm not 100% thrilled with how it turned out, i do appreciate it.  i also played with some new products.  funny story, the orange background paint is semi-gloss.  as i was drying it, i kept thinking it was taking forever because it still looked wet.  then i remembered it was semi-gloss!!

life
material: canvas
paint: gesso, acrylic
stamps:  unity
other: glimmer mist, india ink, mini-burst template

don't worry, i haven't stopped doing paper crafts.  despite having the past few posts be all mixed media projects!  more to come soon!!

inspired...

i have an altered project for friends with flair today.  if you don't know what friends with flair is, simply it's a bunch of unity peeps showing off projects.  and there are prizes involved!  check it all out here.

so back to my altered project....have you heard about the altered paintbrush project that donna downey is doing?  she had some empty wall space and thought it would be cool to have people alter a brush to hang up. so fun! and a little intimidating. i think i ordered it as soon as i read about it. then  i got the brush and it sat. and i had no idea what to do. (not as creative with a brush as i thought!) i think of random things as i'm drifting off to sleep. i know, why do you need to know that?? because one night, as i'm drifting off to sleep, i hit me. like a ton of bricks. i nearly jumped out of bed and started working on my brush right then, but had to work the next day, so knew that wasn't an option. but as soon as i could i stated working on the brush. and i finished it. then started seeing all the AMAZING brushes that she was receiving. then started doubting mine (even though i love how it turned out)! so i held off on mailing it. then i thought, it's just as awesome as some of the others (ok, a little positive talk never hurts!), so i finally worked up the nerve to mail in my brush.  and she got it yesterday!!

and while on the subject of unity and awesomeness (following me?!?  i'm tired!) there is another HUGE sale going on.  the lovelies that are mr and mrs unity have been married for 18 years.  so what better way to celebrate than have a sale  plus there were a bunch of new released stamps yesterday.  so much cuteness! what are you waiting for??  go shop!!

create...

another new art journal project has started.  this one is an 8.5 x 11 canvas journal. tracy got a bug in her ear to make some canvas journals.  so now the monday night crew is following along for the month of september creating our own journals. of course, i went in a completely different direction, since i'm not really the big flowery type.

create
material:  canvas, kraft cardstock
paint: gesso, acrylic
stamps:  susan weckesser/unity
other: glimmer mist, pen

i found an arrow template from crafter's workshop, but didn't get one ordered in time.  so i created my own using my silouhette.  as i was taking out some of the arrows, i loved how some didn't come off, so i left it that way.  the back cover was my "experiement" with the stencil.  it worked much better on the front cover.

i loved the leftover arrows, so i mixed some gloss multi-medium with some pink paint and painted them.  made them a little glossy.  then i thought it needed a little something more, so i outlined a few of the arrows randomly.  can't wait to get the inside pages done each week!!

i found some canvas the other day at the store.  i was going to try and make another journal.  now i'm super excited because my husband got me an awesome present for my birthday, a sewing machine.  whenever we have a gift giving occasion, we either tell the other what to get or just get our present our selves, then pretend the other got it for us. we aren't very good at surprises.  but he got this present all on his own  it was a complete surprise.  and i love it!!  so now i can make my own journal without borrowing my mom's sewing machine!  and i can try some sewing on cards that i think is so cute!!

hope...

i love crafting.  it keeps me sane.  if i'm having (or had) a crappy day, i can craft and sort of escape for a while. forget things for a while.  which is what i needed to do last night.  i needed to get my hands dirty.  this is the end result.  a mixed media canvas.  i had an idea in my head of what i wanted to do.  this isn't exactly that idea, but i do like how it turned out.  i used a bunch of butterflies from a butterfly assortment from creative cuts & more.  it has a few different kinds of butterflies cut out of a bunch of different material.  all which are fun to paint!

gratitude...

september is here.  how excited am i about that??  well, many things.  i have a love hate relationship with fall.  i love the smells of fall, the crisp air, the cool nights and warm days.  i hate that the days are already getting cut short.  sepetmber is my birth month.  and there is a new creative dare from tracy weinzapfel.  all the info about the september creative dare is here. it's all about gratitude and being grateful, taking a few pieces of canvas and creating a gratitude journal with them. (tracy took care of the sewing, thankfully!)  so here's the cover of my gratitude journal.  can't wait to do the next page!!
